The rains that fell last month in Aydın, İzmir and Manisa, where dozens of varieties of products are grown, pleased the farmers who needed water for agricultural production.

In the Aegean Region, last month’s rains met the water needs of winter vegetables, reduced the production cost, and enabled wheat to sprout. Chamber of Agriculture President Yücel Altıntaş:

“We needed water due to drought in our region. The recent rains were worth their weight in gold.”

Stating that 120 kilograms of precipitation per square meter fell in the region, Altıntaş added: “This was good for the plain. It especially accelerated the germination of wheat. It reduced the irrigation cost of winter crops.

“In our region, around 20 thousand decares of winter vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are planted. Hopefully, wheat planting will continue in the coming days if weather conditions allow.”
