Quick-Thinking Teacher Saves Student After Heart Stops in Classroom

Philosophy teacher Suna Bağ helped to save the life of a student whose heart stopped three times in a classroom incident.

The incident occurred at Zeynep-Mehmet Dönmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Didim. Salih Köse (14) fainted when he experienced a sudden heart stoppage during a classroom session.

Quick action from his philosophy teacher, Suna Bağ, proved crucial in reviving him.

When Salih collapsed and lost consciousness, Bağ, equipped with first aid training, promptly intervened. She administered artificial respiration and performed a 10-minute heart massage, successfully restarting Salih’s heart.

Following the emergency, Salih Köse was rushed to Didim State Hospital and later transferred to Aydın Children’s Hospital for an 18-day period of intensive care. His condition has since stabilized.

Teacher Suna Bağ, who saved Salih’s life by providing first aid.

Bağ said: “I had already received first aid training. I lifted Salih’s feet with the bag so that he could breathe easily. Before the medical team arrived, I applied artificial respiration and heart massage for 10 minutes. His heart stopped three times during this period and started again with intervention.

“He was then taken to the hospital by ambulance. I am very happy that my student is holding on to life. We hope he can return to us as soon as possible and continue his education.”

Expressing gratitude for Suna Bağ’s swift response, Salih’s mother, Arzu Köse, highlighted the importance of first aid.

The doctors who performed Salih’s surgery, the nurse and Salih’s family.

“First aid is very important. All doctors told us this. We met with Ms. Suna very briefly, and she said “Let our patient recover a little”. When she comes to visit, I will hug her.”

Salih Köse has been discharged from the hospital and returned home to Didim for continued recovery.
