In Turkey, many holidaymakers now prefer the comfort of travelling alone or with family in a caravan instead of staying at luxury hotels and crowded resorts.
In Didim, especially in Akbük, Fevzipaşa Neighborhood, and some coves near the town centre, caravans have become increasingly popular.
However, while caravan owners enjoy parking by the sea, locals and summer residents in these same areas are voicing their complaints.
They don’t want to pay for the Forest Camp
Tavşanburnu Forest Camp, operated by Didim Municipality, is a popular site for caravanners, offering various facilities.
But many caravanners prefer to camp along the coastline to avoid paying camp fees. As a result, areas like Akbük, Fevzipaşa, 3rd Cove, Manastır Cove, Sağtur Area, and even Mavişehir from time to time, have become hotspots.
“Caravanners should have designated areas”
Locals and holiday homeowners say that when caravans park for long periods by the sea, they create visual pollution with their belongings and equipment.
While residents agree that not all caravanners should be judged the same, some are respectful towards nature and the environment; they stress that the issue of visual pollution needs to be addressed.
They added that they respect people choosing to holiday in caravans but called on local authorities to create designated areas for caravans to park legally and comfortably, so the situation can be better managed.
