YOUNG archers of Didim have captured a number of awards in a provincial championship.

The students including those from Valiler School, took part in the competition and came home with three golds, one silver and five bronze placings. One of the bronze medals was bagged by 13-year-old British student Shanade O’Leary.

Remarkably, Shanade was in the medals even though she had only taken up archery ten days prior to the competition.

The students were praised at a reception held by the Didim Governor İskender Yöndem.

66-1Mr Yöndem praised the efforts of the students and that f the archery teacher Ebru Aydemir.

Ebru said the aim was now to target the national team championships in Turkey.

The governor said there was a need to spread the word on the popularity of the sport of archery in Didim to encourage more students to come forward and learn.
