Update

THE numbers of foreigners living and working in Turkey have finally been revealed – with British residents the largest population in both Mugla and Aydin provinces.

After many, many years of asking for the breakdown of foreign nationals by address in Turkey, as well as locally, the National Office of Statistics has finally revealed the numbers.

Turkey

In Turkey, the foreign population in 2015 stood at 650,308, made up of 310,147 men and 340 161 women.

The biggest foreign population was Iraqis. There are 93,697 Iraqis, compared to 69,873 Germans; 56,647 Syrians;  38,483 Afghans; 36,543 citizens from Azerbaijan.

The total number of Brits living in Turkey failed to get into the top ten, with the tenth place going to Ukraine with 17,135.

What it does indicate is that the 40,000 guestimate of British residents living here – mainly based estimates from five years ago – is now completely wide of the mark. However, Voices can say that there is between 9,100 (Mugla and Aydin’s figures added together) and less than 17,135 (the Ukraine figure).

Mugla

There are 16,554 foreign nationals, consisting 10,058 women and 6,496 men in Mugla province, which covers Bodrum, Marmaris, Datca, Fethiye, Olu Deniz and Hisaronou.

Of that total, there are 6,560 people from Britain; 2,260 Germans, and 1,052 from Russia.

Aydin

There were 8,014 foreign nationals in Aydin province, which includes Kusadasi, Didim, Soke and Aydin, in 2015.

Of that number, there are 2,597 British residents; 1,671 Germans; 369 Irish; 292 Azerbaijan and 281 Dutch.

Out of the 8,014 total, 32.4% of the foreign population in Aydin are British.

The Aydin foreign population consists of 3,453 men and 4,561 women.
