Success of Bodrum 5th Bitter Herb Festival

In Bodrum district, local herbs and products were presented at the Bitter Herb Festival, which was organised for the fifth time.

Local products were offered for sale at the festival organised in Ortakent Köyiçi in cooperation with Bodrum Municipality and Ortakent Yahşi Yalılarını Geliştirme Güzelleştirme ve Mavi Bayrak Association (OYDER).

In the festival, where local artists gave concerts and local folk dances were played, food workshops, local food making and activities promoting culinary culture were held with the participation of famous chefs.

The festival, which aims to transfer Bodrum’s herbs to future generations, included nearly 300 local flavours and more than 30 handicraft stands.

Berrin Şahbaz, who sells local bread, said: “I have been making bread since I was a child. I learnt bread making from my grandmother. The festival is going very well. I have been participating in the festival for 5 years. We are very pleased with the bread we produce.”

Özcan Saygın, who sells 38 kinds of local herbs at his stand, said that he has been doing this job for 20 years and that they are pleased with the interest.

Huriyegül Nalbantoğlu, who participated in the festival with her family from Milas with her local dress, stated that she came to help her family and said: “I have been participating in the festival for 5 years. Our products are the work of our hands. I participated with an outfit from Milas Çomakdağ region. My outfit also attracts a lot of attention.”
