Specialist Dr Murat Minici, who works in the Pediatrics Department of Fethiye State Hospital, exhibits on the walls of his office the pictures drawn and poems written for him by the children he treats.

Minici, a 19-year physician who started working at the hospital about 1.5 years ago, has established good communications with children and their families. Some of the treated children started to bring the pictures they drew with their families and the poems they wrote for Minici.

Minici, who hangs poems and pictures on the wall of his room, aims to share the works of children with more people at the exhibition he will open on 23 April.

Minici told AA correspondent that he was very happy when the children presented him the pictures he had drawn for them and started to exhibit them on the wall.

He said: “In our society, there was fear of the doctor with the perception that ‘the doctor will give a needle’. I wanted to touch the children even if it was small. I did not do anything that the children did not want. If they do not want to open their mouths, they can be reassured in the form of a game: ‘Let’s show the tongue. Let’s play a game with the hand.”

“When trust is built, the child already breaks the chains. We touched their hearts. When I come in the morning or when I feel sad and hurt, I am motivated by looking at these pictures. I would like to thank my lambs who made them.”

Stating that his father told him “Do not invest in property, invest in people”, Minici emphasised that the biggest investment for the future of the country should be made in children, and that this can be done with love.

Stating that the children’s asking their families “Please take me to Uncle Murat” made him very happy, Minici said: “We exchange gifts among ourselves. With a sticky paper, a smile or a kiss on the hand… Mums and dads are also very happy here because their children are examined in peace, happy and go home.

“We are very happy that the paintings on the wall in Fethiye in the form of a flood of love in a short time. We enjoy what we do. If the child likes you, he/she takes all his/her medicines by saying ‘My doctor uncle said so’. This contributes to very serious motivation and positive results of the treatment.

“Their feedback to me is very good. Perhaps the biggest reason for our success in treatments so far is the motivation of children. Some mothers and fathers tell me, ‘Please, doctor uncle, tell him to eat. He listens to you. He does what you say’. When we say this, the child says ‘I promise I will eat’ and keeps his promise.”
