Update

This week I focus on Çanakkale, a city I love to visit. It straddles both the Marmara and Aegean regions. Turkey’s largest island, Gökçeada, and the Aegean’s second largest island, Bozcaada, are located in Çanakkale.

Additionally, the Ancient City of Troy and the Trojan Horse are here. You can find below the places to visit in this city, which hosts many other historically important places.

Ancient city of Troy: The ancient city, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998, is also known as Troy. The historical place, which preserves its mystery as if it were yesterday and inspired Homer, has a distinct reputation around the world. It is also home to the Trojan Horse.

Troy Museum: The museum is located at the entrance of the Ancient City of Troy. Here, you will have the chance to examine the most beautiful examples of sculptures, coins, inscriptions and glass bracelets dating from the Neolithic Age to the Bronze Age and Iron Age.

Aynalı Çarşı: Aynalı Çarşı, which is deep-rooted in history and also known as Halyo Bazaar, was built by Eliyau Hallio, one of the important figures of the Jewish community, in 1890. The folk song that plays constantly in the bazaar is a lament for those who fought and died on the Çanakkale front during World War I. The folk song tells the story of engaged and married people going to their deaths for their country.

Parion Ancient City: Parion Ancient City, located within the borders of Kemer Village, which draws attention with its historical texture, is worth seeing with its Lovers’ Hill and Roman Baths.

Assos Ancient City: The history of the Ancient City of Assos, located in Ayvacık district, dates back to B.C. It dates back to the 900s and also hosts the Temple of Athena, the first temple built in Anatolia. When you visit the city, you should definitely have a meal at the surrounding restaurants serving delicious seafood.

Gökçeada (Imroz): Located at the entrance of Saros Gulf, Gökçeada is the largest island in Turkey. When you visit Gökçeada, which stands out with its untouched nature and clear sea, go to Gökçeada City Museum and Hagia Marina Church.

Bozcaada: Bozcaada is the second-largest island in the Aegean Sea and the third-largest island in Turkey. When you go to the island, you should not return without witnessing the unique view of the sunset.

57th Regiment Martyrdom and Monument: The mausoleum was built in memory of the 57th Regiment who lost their lives during the Gallipoli Wars. In fact, even though those who died in the war were collectively buried elsewhere due to war conditions, this mausoleum was built to commemorate them.

Çanakkale Martyrs’ Monument: Located within the borders of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Monument is 42m high.
